Terms
Short version below. If anything here is unclear, ask before you pay anything and we'll answer it in writing.
The forty-dollar drawing
You send a photograph and one dimension you're sure of. We send back a measured, dimensioned drawing by the end of the next business day. It's a drawing of the part, yours to keep and to hand to any workshop.
If the photograph won't support a measurement, we say so the same day and tell you what would, which is usually the part itself. Nothing is charged until we've confirmed we can read what you sent.
Turned parts
Turned work is quoted per job, because the cost depends entirely on the profile, the species and the quantity. Asking for a quote is free and commits you to nothing. A quote includes the price per piece and a lead time, and the lead time starts when you approve the drawing, not when you ask.
Wood isn’t plastic. Grain, colour and figure vary between boards and between one piece and the next, so the parts we send will match the drawing and the species but not each other exactly. New timber also darkens with age, which is why a single replacement can look new beside a staircase that's had a century of light. We'll tell you which way that will go before you order.
Payment
Drawings are paid for on this site through Stripe, which handles the card. Prices on this site are in US dollars. Turned work is invoiced once the job is quoted and agreed.
Something goes wrong
If a part arrives wrong, tell us. If it's wrong against the drawing we approved, we'll put it right at our cost. If the drawing was wrong because a measurement you gave us was wrong, we'll still help, but we'll be starting again rather than correcting.
