Bring it in · or send a photograph

Bring us the spindle. We’ll send back the drawing.

Not sure what you’ve got? Send a photograph and we’ll tell you what it is and what a set would cost.

SpecimenNo. 101 · Rope-Twist Spindle · 2″ × 21″A single-start rope twist cut between two square blocks. The pattern people mean when they say a staircase is Victorian.

One photograph and one known dimension is enough. Within a day you have a dimensioned drawing of your part, and a price to make as many more as you want, in any species you can name, turned by Mennonite and Amish workshops in Ontario.

Asking is free. Nothing is made, and nothing is charged, until you have seen the drawing and agreed to a price.

What we do

Two services, and most jobs use both. We draw your part so it can be built, then we turn it. Order the parts and the drawing comes with them, free.

Shop drawing SP-001: the square block, turned collars and rope twist of a spindle, every diameter called out and the 21 inch overall marked.

Nepean, and the rest of the city

We’re on Colonnade Road, in the same building as the furniture trades that have been here for generations. Bring the part in during business hours and we’ll measure it while you wait.

Who you’re actually dealing with

Ottawa Spindles is a brand of Kessels’ Upholstering, which has been at the trade in Ottawa for more than seventy-five years. We work out of 107 Colonnade Road in Nepean, alongsideHenderson Furniture Repair, repairing the city’s furniture since 1947. Both are family businesses.

The turning is done by Mennonite and Amish workshops whose families have been at the craft for generations. We specify the profile. They cut it. We stand behind it.
